I just wanted to say that I really loved this film, the writing was nice, the connections were quirky and quizzical, I loved the artist kid for he was so sweet and genuine. I am sad cause he didn't get to finish his tale and no one cares, but it sounded really interesting and nice. I love how when he told the only person about it, the only person with whom he felt he could bond, nothing, the adult character was so preoccupied with his own life, he didn't even care, I guess that makes all of us, but looking back after the tragedy, and how much of his heart are on those pages, it makes <more>
you think like dang, why? But the rest was really funny, the parents who don't believe in the kid and the other parents who believe too much, its all so magical when a person chooses to get high in an already insoluble world.
Brilliant little film. Funny and serious. Mendelsons character is lovably blunt. Covers parenthood, youth, marriage, addiction, sex, and has fine acting! The hole cast.
Sometimes, you need depressing too (by asifkabeer)
By watching this film, you won't get a story, or some profound way to "live the best life" it's about reality, it's about knowing the things that you do or plan will always not result in happiness. Savour it's slowness in solitude, hopefully you will connect with Anders.
I liked it even if I got in a dreppessing mood after watching it (by gabiisi)
I really likes this movie, I guess because I could relate so much to the main character son. I usually get bored with movies like this but I never stopped paying attention. The characters are real, the way life's is portrayed is really close to what I think life is. The only thing I didn't really like was the ending, that's the only reason this is a 9/10 for me.
Tangible (by lusisab)
Am taken in as the movie is like De javu . The realness.. the true primal nature and the accurate nature of our weakness .... is portrayed in the movie. Makes you feel "Tangible " if I may say .
Characters don't always have to be likable!!! (by proudpakistanii16)
This is not a movie for everyone. The characters are flawed and that's what makes them real. We do certain things in life without any reason. And that's what happens in this movie and that's what people are criticising but it is also that thing that made me like this movie. Not all characters are free of fault and the ones who look like the victims are equally to be blamed for everything that happened in the movie. I haven't read the novel but the movie is making me want to pick it up. Anders played by the brilliant Ben Mendelsohn has taken an early retirement but decorating <more>
his house and sleeping with strangers is not bringing him the happiness he expected to find after cutting ties with his old life. Even if you can't relate to his story, you'll be able to relate to him. I know Netflix has been failing in the action and romantic movie genres but in my opinion, they're not doing so bad in drama movies.
I liked it despite it being somewhat less than uplifting and some shortcomings with the characterisations of some of the cast. No, maybe not too many of the characters were likeable but then that's very like life - well, mine after more than fifty years - and I did care what happened to them. Worth seeing.
I can relate (by scheduledgeoff)
I enjoyed it. Didn't check my phone once while watching it. No plot, per se. Low-key family drama, slightly hollow and cliche in spite of what it tries to be. I liked it particularly because I can relate. I grew up 30 minutes from where the movie was filmed, and I have a relative who lives in Westport. Each character reminds me of at least one person I know in real life-it's a very real movie about real problems. Interesting because there is no overt moral to the story but rather a vicarious lesson in how relationships and pain are inextricable.
