Plot: Because of the notoriety she gained from the Miss United States pageant, Gracie Hart's life as an undercover FBI agent is over. In addition, Agent Eric Matthews broke off their relationship which she did not take well. Begrudgingly on the advice her boss Director Harry McDonald, Gracie decides to become the FBI's media relations officer. Ten months later with the assistance of style coach Joel Meyers and a best selling book behind her about her experience, Gracie becomes a designer-clad media darling and the made-up face of the FBI. The new Gracie is the exact opposite of Agent Sam Fuller, a woman who, like Gracie before her pageant experience, has deep seated anger issues. The two do not get along, but that doesn't stop McDonald from assigning Sam to be Gracie's bodyguard. The two are sent to Las Vegas when Gracie's friend, reigning Miss United States Cheryl Frasier, and the long time Miss United States pageant host Stan Fields are kidnapped there. At the FBI's Las Vegas field office, Assistant Director Walter Collins wants Gracie solely to be the media spokesperson on the case, but Gracie wants to be back in the field, especially when she uncovers some leads Collins dismisses. Despite their antagonistic relationship, Gracie and Sam have to work together to follow these leads. Along with them are Joel and insecure FBI Agent Jeff Foreman, the foursome who in addition to finding Cheryl and Stan, have to elude Collins' other agents, Collins who wants Gracie and Sam back on a plane to New York and who wants the glory of solving the case for himself. Runtime: 115 mins Release Date: 23 Mar 2005
I saw this at a special screening and was very pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually a huge fan of sequels, but this for what it is, is incredibly entertaining on its own merit. I love Sandra, so that may be one of the reasons I liked as much as I did, but that being said, the rest of the cast makes this without a doubt one, of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. This will definitely get a vote of must see from me to all. The movie goes quickly at the beginning, and then it slows - but it keeps you interested. Sandra and Regina are so good together. Wardrobe is GREAT! Sandra <more>
dressed as the old woman is hilarious and there are many other great costumes as well. The slow parts only help to make this a real movie. I will make this a definite repeat movie.
great movie, as a stand alone or sequel (by hidden_fear)
I just watched this movie at a preview,i'm used to seeing sequels and them not holding a flame to the original or leaving disappointed but this is one i was quite pleased with, this movie follows Gracie hart starting 3 weeks where the last movie finished off. After her realizing she cannot do her job anymore because she has such a recognizable face, so she decides to become "the new face of the FBI" doing public appearances and writing a book. The story then leads her back to her friend Cheryl aka "Miss United states" getting abducted, which makes her no longer want to <more>
sit on the sidelines and do publicity. The movie holds onto the basics of the first one and the parts that always made you laugh it also makes reference to things that did happen in the first movie but not in a over used sort of way, they kept original characters from the first movie and the actors that played them yet also introduced some new ones quite flawlessly. The jokes are fresh though some are predictable the storyline keeps you flowing if you liked the first one you will most definitely like this one it doesn't leave you lacking.
I just had the chance to see the movie in a press screening today. I work in a cinema so they made it happen for me. I have to say this film is amazing. First of all: Sandy looks gorgeous and so damn young she looks older in "Murder by numbers" . When I got in the theatre my first thought was: I pray to god that this is nothing like "Speed 2". And it turned out: It isn't. This movie has a much depths than the first film. The character of Gracie Hart is so wonderfully portrayed by Bullock that I enjoyed every second of her performance. I'm totally honest in this <more>
review, so I have to tell you that for me not everything works. So here's my list. What works: -Sandy is amazing in this thing and highly enjoyable to watch -Regina King is a wonderful partner and a great actress -Her chemistry together is a wonderful center for the film -Dietrich Bader, Sandy's stylist is just hilarious -The scene with the fake Dolly Parton is one of the funniest I've ever saw -they show us much more of Gracies character and motivations than in the first one -Enrique Murciano is so damn cute -they don't go for cheap jokes except one or two What doesn't work: -Sometimes there is comedy just because it's a comedy movie and not because the story needs it -Heather Burns and William Shattner are less more interesting in the sequel. WARNING-SPOILER:The scene before the last scene is truly heart touching, but the very last scene in the classroom is a little bit tacked on. -Michael Caine is not in the movieBut all in all it's a damn great enjoyable film with a superb Sandy. Some of the press people had to admit that the film is much better than their expectations. So I hope, you liked my review, and one big sorry for the mistakes I made in writing this. My English isn't perfect.
I was at the London Premiere last night. Heres my review then I'll try not to spoil it for anyone though ....THIS MOVIE ROCKS - And its not just my biased view cos I adore Sandy, my guest is an anti-sandy fan and she thoroughly enjoy it as well. The guy satin front of us turned around at the end and was like "I can tell you enjoyed that, we could hear your snorting laugh!!!" lol Its got some HILARIOUS moments, and some incredibly touching moments verging on tear jerking, depending on your mood at the time! , some super sweet moments. Sandy was superb, Regina was amazing, <more>
Heather kicks "booty" hehe... thats part of the movie... you'll get the joke when you've seen it! , Will Shatner was... Will... the bad guys were bad.... the ugly guys were ugly... the Bigbird scenes are HILARIOUS, and go on for like 30mins.the movie went so quickly at the beginning. Like 30mins into the movie, most of the trailer footage is gone and then it moves slower - but still at a good pace! It didn't matter that it wasn't a romcom - it wasn't missing - the movie worked really well without it! Sandy and Regina are so good together - they have some great "Kick-deriere" scenes!!! and play off each other so well.Wardrobe is so good! When sandy's dressed as the old woman, that bits so funny!! and there are so many other great costumes to summarise: MC2 ... 9/10 ... there were a few, very brief, boring moments near the beginning... but it was all building up the story! .... go see it... everyone!!!! Its funnier than the first. More moving than the first.. and just all round a brilliant movie!!
This movie is good! I don't understand why people say it was bad. I liked the first movie and I thought this was even better. I can't believe all the crap that people say about this movie. It is really funny and smart in a dumb way. The best part about it is Sandra Bullock, who is one of my favorite actresses. People should not be let down by the criticism that has been posted on the internet because they would be missing out on a night of laughter. Give this movie a chance in spite of everything I bet you that you will take a laugh or two! Try to watch it with friends to make it fun. <more>
It's kinda like a friends movie that girls would see on a night out. But hey I'm a guy and I thought it was really good!
I think this one of the best sequels I ever have seen. Because it's totally different than the first Miss Congeniality. It's one of those sequels what is really original. I saw this movie yesterday in the cinema. And if I think about it I'm still laughing. I think it's a movie were you just sit and relax. It was a movie with good actors and Regina King & Sandra Bullock were just great together. When the movie starts you will think OK is this all you would suspect more of Sandra bullock but when the movie is half away it's getting faster with more laughing. And a lot <more>
of fun. And I think just the same what I thought about the first Miss Congeniality it's a very original movie. I think this is one of the best movies I have seen this year. So that's the reason why it has a 9. But I don't want to tell the hole story for the people how haven't seen it yet. Please don't look at my English I'm just a Dutch girl
Cute chick flick where you can just sit back and enjoy (by the-movie-guy)
Sandra Bullock returns as FBI agent Gracie Hart in the second Miss Congeniality movie. Gracie has become well-known by the public after saving Cheryl Frasier Heather Burns at the Miss United States Pageant, where she was working undercover. Gracie is asked to become the face to the FBI, and give a positive face of the FBI by promoting her book on TV. Gracie has become a celebrity and is no longer a real FBI agent. Her friends from the pageant, Cheryl and Stan Fields William Shatner are kidnapped in Las Vegas, and Gracie wants to find them. Gracie is ordered by her boss to continue being <more>
the face of the FBI, while they find her friends. Gracie can't do that, so she starts her own investigation. Her bodyguard, FBI agent Sam Fuller Regina King , and Gracie go undercover to find her friends, and the fireworks begin. If you liked the first movie, you will love this one. I think it is even better than the first, and Regina King steals the show with her part. There is much more action and funny scenes. I actually laugh through the entire movie. This is one cute chick flick where you can just sit back and enjoy. Warner Brothers, Run time 1:55, Rated PG-13 8/10
I always enjoy watching a Sandra Bullock film, despite what critics may say about it. Despite a decade and a half in the limelight she is still as fresh and new and as witty and talented as she was when I first noticed her in films like Demolition Man or Speed. Believe me, when we watch Bullock, we are watching not only a movie star, but a movie star who will be remembered long after she she is dead and gone as one of the best.Miss Congeniality 2, was not what I was expecting at all. The billposters and cover art entice us into believing that the beautiful FBI agent Gracie Hart is once more <more>
thrown into the backbiting world of an all new beauty pageant, but this is not the case.I suppose to recreate the situations of the first movie would have been a mistake anyway, so I was pleasantly surprised at the change and am half glad my first expectations were not realised. It is also interesting to note, that where Miss Congeniality is by all intents and purposes a RomCom, Miss Congeniality 2 is not. There is not even the slightest sniff at a romance, so it is safe to say that this is purely ....Com.Gracie, due to her televised heroics at the beauty pageant is now too famous for her undercover Field work. Much to her chagrin she is given a new job as the glamorous face of the F.B.I. where she is forced once again to 'doll up' and travel the country in a cavalcade of television shows, book signings and guest appearances, all to promote the bureau in a positive light. However, when her friend, the newly crowned Miss United States, is kidnapped and held to ransom, Gracie is once again chomping at the bit to draw her gun, kick some ass and break the rules to rescue her.All this is well and good but when she has a world famous identity, a tough new female partner with anger management issues and the entire F.B.I. hampering her every effort, Gracie realises that the rescue is going to be a lot harder than she had first thought. This movie is fantastic, and very funny. Bullock once again shows us why she is the best female comedy star in the world, as she goes from one chaotic scene to the next. One scene that stands out in particular is where she dresses up as an old woman with a large overbite, in order to infiltrate an old folks home. Hilarious. Its true that this film is not on par with the original, but with all honesty most sequels aren't and I was under no delusions that it was going to be, but it is enjoyable and fun all the same.Only two complaints, No Micheal Caine. He was hilarious in the first movie and would have been a welcome return to this one. The other complaint is William Shatner.I like William Shatner very much, and his has-been compare character in the original was a joy to watch throughout, but there was no real reason for him to have been in this one at all. Even his lines fail to raise a laugh. He is the only truly redundant character in the movie, but to be fair, bad characterisation and weak dialogue writing is hardly Shatner's fault is it?On the whole, this is good old fashioned comedy, executed in a way good old fashioned comedy should be made. Another Bullock beauty.
The reviews of this film have ranged from high praise to intense dislike. Such an extreme range calls for some reflection on how reviewers look at films and how movie lovers may differ in their expectations. Reviewers, by and large hate sequels; movie lovers, by and large, flock to see them. This suggests a crucial difference: reviewers tend to want something new to reawaken their jaded palettes; movie lovers feel comfortable being reintroduced to characters they already know. Many reviewers attacked "Miss Congeniality 2" because it seemed to them to be more of the same, not <more>
something new and exciting. This rule does not hold for Quentin Tarantino movies, which seem to be praised for revitalizing old, dead, conventions mostly by rejecting a sequential narrative; by scrambling sets of old clichés from pulp fictions, Tarantino, we are told, revitalizes them, though they seem to me to be essentially old clichés still. The question of course is whether the basic premise is valid. The NY Times reviewer who blasted the opening night presentation of "Bringing up Baby" starring Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant condemned it in much the same terms that are still used for movies that feature both comedy and romance: clichéd, tedious, predictable. Audiences, however, who tend to like happy endings when they go to a comedy, have demonstrated their preferences in theaters, on TV, and on video and DVD. Subsequent critics have ranked "Baby" as one of the best of the screwball comedies and one of the best romantic comedies ever.Instead of demanding noveltywhich reviewers frequently reject when they find it, as in the case of Bullock's "Practical Magic," which for some reviewers unforgivably mixed love, witchcraft, and vengeful spirits of the dead, making it difficult to classify was it a children's movie? A family movie? A horror flick? a romance? , reviewers might do better not to let their expectations freeze out anything on the screen not preprogrammed by the title, but to actually think about the movie they are watching. Bullock, who participated in what she has declared one of the worst movie sequels ever produced, "Speed 2," might be expected to be especially shy about being involved in a sequel unless it could do something the first one didn't. I think this one does: instead of a romantic comedy, it is an action movie with no romantic interest for the star, unless it is her initially reluctant partner, Sam Fuller, a woman Regina King enraged at pretty much everything, but especially macho men whom she delights in tossing about the FBI physical combat workout room like dolls, who ends up saving her life and becoming her partner no one else will work with either in the same way that Briggs and Murtaugh became an odd couple in the "Lethal Weapon" series, an example Bullock has cited in some interviews. Bullock, an ex "America's sweetheart," presents Gracie as a "STAR" whose ego is blown up by the adulation she receives as America's newest celebrity when she becomes the PR Face of the FBI. Many reviewers tried to personalize this, though the standard litany about the actress is that she is easy to get along with, personable, helping, caring, etc. I haven't seen any attempts to blame the movie on her greed; perhaps if she hadn't donated a million dollars after 9/11 and another million after the tsunami, that could have been a handy brush with which to tar her and the movie as well . As the references to other celebrities like Dolly Parton, Regis, and Wayne Newton suggest, though critics don't like celebrities, the buyers of US, People, and the tabloids clearly do. Bullock's comment seems to be clear at the end: Gracie will write no more books nor offer any more comments; all she wants to do is her job. A final theme in the movie seems to arise out of Sam Fuller's propensity for violence, a propensity Gracie shares at moments when she isn't being a talk show version of FBI Barbie. Yet at the end of the movie, when Gracie threatens a class of elementary school students unless they quiet down, it is clear that violence appeals to her at the same time that she wishes it didn't. "Miss Congeniality" made when Bill Clinton was still President and the greatest threat to government was unrestrained sexual desire ended with Gracie, newly crowned as Miss Congeniality, insisting that, like the other contestants whom she had mocked earlier , she really did want "world peace. "Miss Congeniality 2" made after the invasion of Iraq ends with Gracie looking directly at the audience and affirming that indeed we really do need world peace.I imagine that having to sit through several movies a week could get tedious, but I'm not sure this entitles reviewers to rain down their ire on good and bad movies alike. Certainly a little more tentativeness and a bit less certainty about the worth of movies they see only quickly and whose plots they frequently summarize incorrectly might make them less liable to the judgments of those who will be blessed with hindsight and the chance to think about movies before they are required to come to judgment upon them.
