I have not seen a lot of Disney's recent animated offerings with the exception of Lilo & Stitch, Finding Nemo, and Brother Bear , but Home on the Range appealed to me. I found it to be a movie worthwhile of my time. It is definitely a family-friendly movie, and I am surprised by the PG rating. I could not figure out why it wasn't rated "G." The movie emphasizes the importance of friendship and family.Sad to see the end of an era of hand-drawn animation at Disney. There has been very little promotion which is certainly disappointing...where are the Happy Meal toys?Go out <more>
and support traditional animation by seeing this delightful film!
A good laugh the whole way through. (by That70sHeidi)
I don't know what the other cranky reviewer was on, but both myself and my 65 year old mother laughed the whole way through. We even rewound to hear some of the jokes and asides a second and third time. We watched it completely through a second time when my 21 year old brother came in with his girlfriend, and we ALL sat and laughed. The incidental background animation was tops, the yodelling scene was amazing and the casting of the voices was dead on. Everyone commented on how fun it was to guess the celebrity voices. Frankly, this is an awesome film, and Disney should have done more of <more>
them instead of the boring waste of Mulan and Pocahontas.
For whatever reason I didn't get around to watching Home on The Range until now. I have to say, I am glad I did! The stylized animation reminds me of The Emperor's New Groove. The style was something I heard many people complain about it, but in my opinion, it worked for this movie. Just as great was the voice acting. I was especially delighted the addition of Judi Dench, who I'm a huge fan of since I was introduced to As Time goes By. Some of the humour may go over kid's heads, but I think this is one the whole family will get enjoyment out of. I got some much-needed laughs <more>
I don't see just why it is that people don't like this film. It has good music, good animation, and funny dialogue, but it is fairly sappy. I thought that it was fairly good, even though the plot is just a wee bit weak. Fortunately, the plot is peppered with many humorous events and turns which clear any and all flaws up. The plot is that of a small farm out in the Old West, which is set to be foreclosed. All seems lost until two cows who live there, and one who just moved in, decide to do the only thing that can be done to save their home, catch a notorious criminal, who is known for <more>
stealing cows. With some massively amusing high-jinks and many plot twists, this film, while redundant at times, is not to be missed. Take it from someone who knows animation, this movie, while having received a multitude of bad comments and scorns is good, but watch it yourself and YOU be the judge. YOU must decide whether or not it is good, but I found it enjoyable.
This is another excellent Disney film. Classic animation leaving a real warmth to the characters and settings. Familiar storyline too of cattle rustlers and farm foreclosures and unlikely heroes rising up to save the day.We love the voices especially Roseanne as the brash, bold and over the top lead character. Cuba Gooding Jnr does a great job interjecting humour as a sidekick horse rivaling the role of Donkey by Eddie Murphy. The soundtrack is amazing too with leading Country starts leading their songwriting skills to memorable catchy tunes. It was surprising to read so many negative reviews <more>
and wonder how many of them are adults as opposed to kids whom Disney make these movies for in the first place. As a family we love this film and have watched it over a dozen times.Highly recommended.
The best animated Disney film ever! (by bennymelman)
This movie is incredible, worth-watching, and better to watch if you are in a Disney mood. This film starts off in a farm in Nebraska, and a cow narrating the story, about how she lost her farm due to a very mean cattle rustler, Roseanne played the voice of a cow, named Maggie who team up with 2 other cows, to catch the cattle rustler and collect the money for the reward. My favorite part of the film is when the dust cloud approaches the 3 cows, and they run away, I used to be afraid of that part, now I love it.Enjoy the film! It is totally worth-watching. Buy it if you are interested.
good movie, for the kids (by Go_Skins)
I really liked this movie. Having 3 kids of my own, I thought that they really got a kick out of it. Normally, you see a movie and the kids' attention quickly goes off the movie. I thought that it would last a little longer than it did being just over an hour long. I mean, aren't most movies like an hour and a half to two hours or more? I started watching it not hearing anything about it and actually liked the plot line. I also thought Roseanne's character really brought out the acting ability in her. I also heard a familiar voice in Cuba Gooding Jr. He was brilliant as a horse <more>
named "Buck." This wasn't a Disney movie which I originally thought it was going to be. I would definitely recommend this movie to those with little ones!
The promotion for this fabulous little movie let it down. The ads certainly didn't convince me it would be worth seeing but my son wanted to see it so away we went, and went and went and went. That's right, four times over the summer and circled the DVD release date on the calender.First, the score: fabulous score and songs with fabulous singers to sing them. kd lang, Bonnie Raite, Tim McGraw. I don't know which song I like the best - the upbeat "Patch of Heaven" or the moving "Will the Sun Ever Shine Again".The cast: Roseanne and Jennifer Tilly, Cuba Gooding, <more>
Jr., Judi Dench and Randy Quaid - perfect. Some really funny lines and situations. The combination of animation and humor put me in mind of personal favourites "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Pecos Bill" - quite cheeky. There's even a little tip of the hat to Edward G. Robinson.Oh, did I mention the soundtrack? Get the cd, it's wonderful. The movie is fun, has some touching moments and doesn't drag its story out the way filmmakers like to do nowadays. Thoroughly enjoyable, and did I mention the soundtrack?
Trippy and odd looking but well worth your time (by martine-12)
The first 10 minutes or so of Home on the Range didn't get me hooked at all, the movie seemed quite bland for a Disney movie. On top of that it didn't look like a typical Disney movie, all square-ish and edgy. After a while the movie grew on me and before I knew it it had all the Disney trademarks you could want; spectacular characters, excellent voice acting, nice animation and weird humor. A bit too weird perhaps. Just wait until you get a taste of how Alameda Slim manages to steal all that cattle. It was right up my alley though and by the end of the movie I was quite pleased with <more>
what Disney had managed to produce. In a way it's a very simple story about friendship but since it's so well done you really don't mind.Well worth seeing, for young and adult both.
