Everyone says he is back...to the big screen. He always was there. But the big screen doesn't make you a big actor. DVD or big screen. There is no different between DVD or big screen. in all conditions, a good actor is a good actor. Art is art. Actor is actor and movie is movie. What about that film? Probably for many people this was the best JC film in last 10 years. And İt is. Drama, action, brutality, sex, guns, knives, Matthew 27:3-4, a mature action movie and a better Jean Claude Van Damme. Very good film, very good acting. Cheers for Jean Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins and Ernie <more>
action, enjoyable worth the watch (by guitarhero4000)
Good to see van damme back into action, just need to see a lot more faster action and more bone cracking spin kicking karate, but overall good movie, i give a 10 just due to i made it to the end of his movie....enjoy worth the watch, i think he needs to team up for some action/comedy with a known actor to get him back on the big screen... Looked like a well budgeted movie, and was under done with cheap shots or crappy dialogue.Van damme looking a bit older not really looking as tonned as he use to be, hopefully his next few movie he will tonne up a Little, his definitely lost weight from his <more>
last few movies, maybe he getting ready for expendables 2..
Let me first say that I am a "Die Hard" Van Damme fan. Therefore, I shall be biased and give this film 10 stars. On another note, I always enjoy the assassin-based thriller, just as my step-father always enjoys the western based thrillers.Due to my admiration of the assassin thriller, I have seen several of the likes, and I can honestly say this is a superior made motion picture. The acting and story are easy to follow, as well as, believable. I always enjoy a Van Damme motion picture.Besides, Van Damme could use the support! P.S. Please God, let me work with Van Damme someday! Haha
The Best Film That You Probably Won't See This Summer (by hijklmno45)
Wow! I really got lucky with this one! A Jean Claude Van Damme film released in theaters for the first time in the United States since 1998 if memory serves right! A very limited release mind you, but he's finally made it back to the big screen! It hasn't been advertised here at all which is a shame because Assassination Games is an excellent film! So where do I begin? Well, the film was shot for $4,000,000 dollars in some Eastern Block country which would normally scare me, but it actually ends up looking a lot better than the above stated price tag. Say around the 15 to 20,000,000 <more>
dollar range. The camera and editing work was very well done and the musical score is excellent, non pervasive and flows with the movie in a non intrusive way that adds to the dramatic effect instead of taking away from it. The story is pretty well done. I'd give the dialog a solid B for an action movie and there were no detectable plot holes that I could find. The best actor in the film in my opinion was probably Andrew French who plays Nalbandian who plays Devil's Advocate to Van Damme fallowed by Maria Kaijan, Jean Claude, Scott Adkins and Ivan Kaye. In fact, the acting was pretty much all the way around solid except for the interpol agents who's dialog and delivery was extremely weak. The film goes about 50/ 50 on the action to drama ratio. It drags a bit after the first 5 minutes or so but the fight scenes are interspersed throughout the film well and are also followable which is more than I could say for some larger budget films like the Transformers franchise and I would definitely have to say that Jean and Scott make an excellent action duo as they have the whole fire and ice thing going. If you happen to be within an hours drive of any of the theaters listed on the movie website, go and check the film out. It isn't as good as JCVD or the new Universal Soldier, but it's a very close third. So go check it out or just wait for the DVD. It'll be worth it! Thank you Jean Claude! I never thought I'd see you on the big screen again!
This is my first and probably my last review. The 6.something rating was doubtlessly a main reason for this review of mine, as I thought it was quite outrageous and unfair for this piece of art. Another main reason was the fact I've just watched this movie and I wanted to openly express how I felt about it and share my thoughts. If you're looking for a pure action flick and classical typical Van Damme movie, you can stop reading this review right now and find yourself a better movie, because this one is below average for a movie labeled as "action".Van Damme is a professional <more>
assassin who's introduced to us by a quick job he smoothly executes in the beginning of the movie. His character is somehow typical for an assassin as he's portrayed as a semi-heartless man controlled by material motives. The first and most prominent aspect is the movie is Van Damme's acting; which is for me unsurprising yet still admirable every time. Besides Van Damme, quite a few actors did their roles very nicely indeed, especially those with supporting roles. The juxtaposition presented via Van Damme's cold character meeting with its utter opposite -Scott Adkins' character- was a very entertaining element and added a lot to the plot and the whole story.Speaking of the story, it's nothing complicated or Inception-ish, yet it's not THAT predictable to say the least. Personally I appreciated the simplicity of the story as the message there made it up; the moral of the story had a remarkable impact on me. That's a matter of opinion of course, but I'm sure that many would appreciate it as well. The music in the movie aided a lot in enriching some scenes, the cinematography was pretty good, sound editing was good and probably most technical aspects of the movie were VERY good.Like I stated earlier, the action scenes are rare, however, when they happen, they're absolutely fun to watch and don't lack enjoyment. On the other hand, the drama in this movie is what makes it superb. The script wasn't magnificent, yet many simple straightforward lines will be stuck in your head for sometime after watching this movie.Briefly, if it's action your'e after, don't watch this movie. If you want some few action scenes with excellent drama and a GOOD message, you MUST watch this one. Personally, I'm willing to watch this movie over and over again JUST to watch the last scene.
Old School Jean Claude Fan that was pleasantly surprised. (by thelazyw)
Keep in mind this is a 9 out of 10 for Jean Claude movies. I have them all and this one will be added soon. This was a good movie to show Jean Claude is back and ready for some better roles. He did not try to step out farther than his acting chops allow, but highlighted what he is good at, the strong silent type. His fellow screen-mates were all interesting, even though some clichés were readily identifiable. Loved the turtle and was super relieved he did not get squashed in the midst of battles. We loved it that all of the bad guys get it in the end. Was a little disappointed in how easily <more>
the main villain was let off after everything he had done... oh well... I hope this is a sign of things to come and that we can expect Jean to be back in action soon. This looks to be the case considering the films that show in post production on his page.
The two major roles, played by Scott Adkins, and Jean-Claude Van Damme are something that you can relate too. One is fighting to assassinate his target because of love, fighting to try and bring justice for his wife. The second is the opposite. Everything thing is about work, and he is just doing a job. Vincent becomes more open to love throughout the film, as you see the change from the start to the end, and that was a good believable story. The writing for this movie was great, good action sequences, though at times there was a little too much dialogue, they did make the movie worth <more>
watching, but also something that you won't regret having watched later.
a solid action thriller, van damme's best movie since wake of death (by daworldismine)
this slick action pic stars van damme and scott adkins as assassins, one killing for money, the other revenge, when they are both after the same target, they have to work together. although on paper the story don't sound too original, but believe me this is a smart script with a few good surprises you don't see coming. and the action, well the movie is voilent and the action is fast, hard and brutal, if you ever wanted to see van damme chop of a guys head with a sword this movie is for you. in the early 90's it was seagal who was on top, but ever sice 2003, van damme has been the <more>
king, his movies a lot better, and van damme has actually turned in to something of a good actor. scott adkins, is also great here, although not as good an actor, he is brilliant at fighting, and handles his action stuff with ease, maybe even a bit better than van damme himself. all in all, i liked this film very much, and is further proof that van damme is still on top, i recommend
Vincent Brazil and Roland Flint are the two best assassins in the world - but unknown to each other. These two rival assassins form an uneasy alliance to take down a target, which is backed by dirty Interpol Agents....Whilst Van Damme has top billing in this movie, and is the main sell for this film, the real stand out in this is Adkins. He shows here that folks like Van Damme, and Seagal should pass the action crown to him now.It hurts me to say this because I am a huge fan of the two action stars.Van Dammes last few movies have been very, very dark, and this continues the trend. Van Dammes <more>
Brazil is a loner who lives in an apartment which has a secret luxury room and a corridor that looks like it belongs in a hospital.Adkins plays a guy who is married to Van Dammes daughter, but she is comatose because the fat tramp from Layer Cake and his gang abused her. Both men get info on where to find him, Van Damme for Money, Adkins for revenge..And at the same time, Van Dammes son and Andy Hunter from eastenders are tring to double cross everybody for some reason or another. The film is fantastically edited and for the budget, and looks really good too. But again, it's miles away from his early movies, this is more in the vain of Until Death, and even JCVD.It's very murky and cold feeling, and the violence is rife throughout. Limited martial arts action may deter the fans of Kickboxer, but it's a step up from the last Universal Soldier film, and The two leads have great chemistry. My only gripe is the tagged on revenge ending, and the silly sub-plot involving Brazil and his neighbour.
