Untrue bad reviews for funny movie... (by flitz35-633-627650) |
If Robert Deniro wasn't so involved in giving his political views that some people didn't agree with. So for that someone took the trouble to bash this funny gem that kept my Interest the entire time unlike most movies that come out that make me fall asleep. It's a sad fact but its so obvious. Now for a short but 'honest' review. Deniro was his usual genius self and goes from serious to funny in a heartbeat without effort. Edy Falco kept up and had great chemistry with Deniro. The story was interesting and kept me awake. |
Another De Niro Triumph (by jlthornb51) |
Robert De Niro gives yet another performance of a lifetime in this original and superb film. Under the expert direction of Taylor Hackford, a wonderful cast of veteran actors shine but it is De Niro who triumphs. A sharp and insightful script is a strong foundation for these fantastic artists to build upon and they do so with skill and brilliance. De Niro gives his character a depth with which only he alone is capable and he is matched step by step by a breathtaking supporting cast. Lupone, Grodin, Leachman, Crystal are simply wonderful. This is Hackford's best work in years and he <more> |
Warm and funny (by b4blue) |
I was really surprised. Didn't expect this kid of role would suit Robert, but it worked out. It's not a movie that tries to show the main character as a pro comedian but still delivers more that other movies with similar story. Usually the cringe is really strong with those but there I really enjoyed every moment. Robert showed Louis CK how to act. Don't get me wrong, I love everything Louis makes but he is not an actor. They should definitely work together. |
Wonderful film- very funny, great writing (by latinfineart) |
This film was funny, insightful, very, very well written, and was made for adults. My guess is that a lot of very weak millennials, with no understanding of humor, who take themselves way too seriously, were responsible for all of the poor ratings, and reviews. They cannot be taken seriously. They know nothing about classic humor, which this film paid tribute to, in a wonderful way. It was raw, it was nasty, it was crude. All of the great things we love about comedy. DeNiro was fantastic. Danny Devito was great. The woman who played his dragon queen wife was amazing, portraying the nasty side <more> |
You just don't skip this one (by kamen-kunchev) |
No, no, no! You don't skip this one! This movie is a litmus test for whether you have some sense of humor or not. It's that simple. A comedian that's never been too popular unscripted, a daddy's girl with an attitude, and an obsessive father... This movie would have been taken way too seriously if it weren't for good comedy and punchy humor! |
De Niro's Back (by marshallfg) |
I suppose an actor, if he seeks longevity, should be flexible enough to do any kind of role. However, it was really disheartening to see Robert De Niro in movies like "Meet the Fockers." It's not that he wasn't funny, but his character was about an inch deep. Now his role in "Jackie Brown" as Samuel L. Jackson's washed up partner-in- crime was a notable exception. I admire the humility it takes to play those kinds of roles, but they're a far cry his stronger roles in "Taxi Driver" "Awakenings" and "Cape Fear.""The <more> |
Why the hate? This was funny, and it had heart. (by johnnybiscotti) |
What's the matta wit you? I am puzzled by all the negative reviews. Yes, it's not The King of Comedy, or Goodfellas. But this movie was funny. De Niro's character Jackie was a 3-dimensional and human portrayal, and doesn't deserve to be dismissed as "another De Niro phoning it in" performance. The scenes where he performs stand-up comedy were genuinely funny. The relationship he has with his brother Danny DeVito were warm and convincing. It may not be a timeless masterpiece, but if you're at the Red Box or looking for your next movie night rental from the couch <more> |
De Niro In Decent Film Shocker! (by alan_holloway_2) |
I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting too much from this one, due to some withering reviews on here and also De Niro's recent track record. His character, Jackie Burke, is an insult comic who had a hit many years ago with a sitcom. He's good at what he does, but as he nears seventy the work doesn't come like maybe it once did, possibly due to his short temper and habit of always doing his act on everyone he meets. As the film went along, I found myself genuinely liking Jackie, due to sharp writing and a very on form De Niro. Leslie Mann is also impressive as usual , and <more> |
It shows life as up and down, yet it's in an outspoken, brash, blunt and raw manner! (by blanbrn) |
Robert De Niro for sure is one of the best actor's still around in the business, so it was only fitting that I see his latest work the independent film "The Comedian". It's one picture that's a mix of drama and harsh outspoken brash laughs that proves that life is unexpected with drama and connecting up with people and also it presents new chances to start and float with other people from one's past.De Niro is Jack Burke a past his prime comedian who's washed up and looking at perhaps going back to the TV comedy series outlet to once again gain fans, yet after a <more> |
