Fun with Dick and Jane is an excellent film. Forget about those laugh-getters, George Segal and Jane Fonda. This is an excellent movie and very funny. Jim is back. This is the Jim Carrey of The Mask, Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura. The movie isn't a string of gags. It is well-structured. The supporting characters are funny and very important, not the anchors Jim has been obliged to heft in some of his recent films. Tea Leoni, as in wow! How many actresses would allow their pretty faces to be tampered with. Alec Baldwin is fantastic in this. If Siskel were alive, he'd have to eat a <more>
big pile of manure after seeing how good Alec is. He might be chowing on a big one in heaven, anyway. Don't believe the reviews. I'm writing the absolute truth. Go see this movie.
Excellent movie. Good mix of humor and moral content. (by markjohnsonii)
This movie has a good mix of typical Jim Carey humor with some modern day adult issues that many Americans can relate to. There is plenty of serious points in the movie to suggest the director wanted to reach adult audiences more-so than a younger crowd who can not identify much of the issues brought fourth in the movie. Tei and Jim are a great pair, and play their parts splendidly. The setting is such that they could be living and working in any major suburb across the US. The plot is very real to anyone that has worked for a big company and has moved up the corporate ladder. The fears, and <more>
concerns that develop as the plot progresses 'feels' very natural and lifelike. A+ Job done on this movie buy cast and crew.
My daughter took me to see this movie. At first i thought that it was going to be just like every other movie, but i was proved wrong. I loved this movie. To me it was the best movie that Jim Carey ever stared in. I loved this movie because it explains to me and the world that no matter of how big of a pickle you are in you will always be able to get out of it. I thank Jim Carey and all of the other actors that participated in this movie because i think that it proves a good point. No matter what pickle you are in you can always solve it. When this movie comes out on DVD i will be sure to buy <more>
it no matter what. Everyone who reads this comment should go to the movie and see it. It will knock your socks off. Two thumbs up.
I saw this movie in a preview screening and I laughed so hard that I had a headache by the end. I am really glad that Jim Carey has finally found a balance between his physical comedy and things that are actually comedic. The supporting cast was also excellent. Alec Baldwin was very good at being a character whom the viewer would love to hate. The story line was interesting and fast moving. It was a spot of light shining on the sad times that followed all of the financial ruin at the beginning of this decade. Although the movie was only about an hour and a half long, it did not feel short at <more>
all. All in all it was a fun movie that is worth watching if one really wants a good laugh.
I'm a huge Jim Carrey fan; I've found with most people that you are or you aren't. If you aren't a Carrey fan than this film may not be for you...I was very anxious for this film to come out once I heard it was in production; however, after I saw a couple of reviews on TV it appeared to be another clichéd holiday flick that featured a toned down version of Carrey.I made sure to keep my hopes low for this film just in case Carrey was not in pure form; however, I was delightfully surprised. Carrey lights up the screen once again with his zany antics and rubberface slapstick <more>
comedy. The film, by far from my favorite Carrey movie will definitely be added to my collection for not only Carrey's comedic stylings, but also for its good acting Baldwin, Leoni and message.Although I never did see the original, the present day story hits home with current collapses of major corporations such as Enron, Worldcom, and many others. Although this updated script seemed a bit unfinished it was definitely worth the $6.00 ticket.Teà Leoni, while at times was a bit hard to swallow made a good match for her high energy movie spouse, Jim Carrey. She was able to come up to Carrey's intensity with her constant anxious energy, yet throughout most of the movie he out shined her as he does most of his movie co-stars.Another unmentioned quality that the movie has is its clean content. The cussing is kept to a minimum and there is no graphic or violent content; making it a great choice for a family film. My 6-year-old niece saw it with me and she was laughing throughout and it kept her attention! Although I did not give the movie a perfect rating mainly due to the script and emphasis on plot, I would give this movie 3 out of 4 stars. I would liken the film to Liar Liar with a watered down script. I would definitely check out this one out - you're guaranteed to have Fun with Dick, and maybe Jane
Jim Carrey Does It Once Again!!!! (by MovieManiacX)
Let me start off by saying that Jim Carrey is my favorite comedian, hands down. He can make ANYTHING funny, with his crazy facial expressions and gangly flailing limbs. If you don't find Jim Carrey funny I really can't see why some people don't , you probably won't find the movie funny. It's that simple.Onto the review! Jim Carrey shines here like he does in everything else as Dick Harper. Carrey being the everyman that he is, he slides right into the role. His manic insanity is ever-present, especially in a scene where he has to literally chase down a customer he <more>
didn't greet at the door of his new job. Téa Leoni does a great job as well, off-setting Carrey's craziness with amusing sarcasm. They have great chemistry together, which adds to the movie's charm. In one scene where they rob a car dealership, I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes! All the supporting characters are good, especially Richard Jenkins as Frank Bascom, the drunken superior to Dick. Alec Baldwin is also good as the seedy CEO of Dick's company.A great deal of the movie is physical comedy, which Carrey handles wonderfully. The movie really kicks into high gear once Dick and Jane start robbing people. Watching them get back everything they lost by robbing such places as Starbucks and Chinese buffets is hilarious. The music was well-done, adding a lot to the movie. I also enjoyed the poke at Enron at the end. Go see it.The Bottom Line: A funny, over-the-top romp with almost non-stop laughs. With Jim Carrey you really can't lose!
This movie can make everyone laugh. It has a wide variety of types of humor. Jim Carrey does a wonderful job. The humor makes references to all sorts of real life situations. The movie had me grinning the entire time, and laughing half the time. The boy playing Billy Harper was wonderful! The couple curse words were very little and far between. It was even part of the humor. If you never watched the original as I haven't you will be surprised at points. It never lost my attention, something was always about to happen. You would be waiting for something to happen, then something totally <more>
different and hysterical happens. Without doubt, I recommend this to everyone. The humor is so wide.
Dick and Jane are in love and living the American dream--until one day it becomes an American nightmare. When the company Dick works for becomes involved in an Enron-like scandal and he takes the rap, Dick and Jane are forced with the prospect of losing everything. After playing by the rules and getting burned, Dick has an idea: If stealing was good enough for his boss, then it's good enough for him. Using his newfound skills, he and Jane decide to exact hilarious revenge and teach big business a lesson. Jim Carrey steals the show once more, but Téa Leoni fails in her attempt to live up <more>
to Fun Jane Fonda's very funny performance in the 1977 original. Dean Parisot, best know for TV shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm, gives a lovely job at directing, but fails to show the more sympathetic side of the characters at the end. Also the robbery scenes are fantastic, one scene with the low fat muffins is amazing, you will laugh endlessley. The original is not a classic, either is this one, but did you really expect it to be.
Jim Carrey is hard to beat in a role like this. He looks like the all American yuppie - tall, clean shaven, well dressed, and in control of his life - and his comedic delivery has been refined into a polished riff. All is believable when he lets loose because you know this is a guy who has a great sense of humor and he can get you to laugh until you lose your breath without grossing you out or making you groan at absurd silliness. Even while prancing or jabbing the air or contorting his face, Carrey is - hands down - the sexiest comedian on screen today. Tea Leoni is a good match for him <more>
because she too can be sexy while doing pratfalls or ending up with mud on her face. This is a dream coupling that should be repeated in more light comedies the way William Powell & Myrna Loy were paired in The Thin Man series.I found this remake head and shoulders above the original because it had far more energy and there was more 'sympatico' in the match of personalities of Dick & Jane. The new version also has a much more important message about corporate shenanigans and its grave impact on modern society. The film moves at a quick pace and was too short for me, but that's only because I didn't want to leave these characters. They became that fun couple you always invite to your get-togethers because they are the life of every party.
